Micah Rumsey is a Weekend Meteorologist for WJBF NewsChannel 6, joining the team in November 2012.
Micah is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist, receiving the top Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society. He also received his Master’s Degree in Meteorology on campus at Mississippi State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Illinois.
Micah’s life and career have taken him all over the country. He’s called seven states home (Texas, Georgia, Arizona, Illinois, Mississippi, Montana and South Carolina), so he’s familiar with just about every type of weather you can see in the US. If he had to pick a hometown, it would be Troy, IL, which is just outside of St. Louis, MO.
Micah interned at WCIA in Champaign, IL, started officially working at KFBB in Great Falls, MT and most recently worked for WAGT in Augusta. He loved this area so much he decided to stay and join the amazing Live VIPIR 6 Weather Team.
Micah’s love for travel continues into his personal life. He’s visited Vancouver, Montreal, London, Paris, Florence and Rome and his goal is to travel to a different foreign country every year. He finished up 2017 with a trip to Japan. This year, he made it to Iceland, Denmark, and Sweden. Another trip to Japan is currently in the works.
When he’s not at work, Micah is spending time with his wife and two dogs. An avid sports fan, he has a very wide fanbase including the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Illinois Fighting Illini, Dallas Cowboys, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks and Chelsea Soccer. He married into a Clemson family, so you might catch him in some purple and orange. Micah is also very involved at True North Church in North Augusta and other charitable causes.
