RALEIGH, N.C. -

A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper was injured Monday in a single-car accident on Lake Wheeler Road.

Highway Patrol said the trooper, whose identity has not been released, began pursuing a motorcyclist on Lake Wheeler after attempting to stop him for careless and reckless driving.

However, as the trooper approached Lake Wheeler Road's intersection with I-40, a passenger car attempted to turn onto Lake Wheeler Road into the path of the trooper's vehicle.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, the trooper veered to the left and struck the median.

Highway Patrol says the trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to Wake Medical Center for evaluation.

The driver of the motorcycle continued on and was last seen traveling on Bloodworth Street at South Street near downtown Raleigh. He is described as a black male, weighing approximately 280 lbs, wearing a black vest with a white unknown insignia.

Anyone with information on this incident should contact the Highway Patrol at (919) 733-3861.
