A church family in Columbia County is in shock after learning about the murder of one of its members.
William Davitte, 55, was gunned down in front of Marvin United Methodist Church on Thursday night. He died at the scene and his wife, Jennifer, suffered a head injury and was treated at Georgia Regents Medical Center and released.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the couple stopped by the church Thursday night to turn on the sprinkler system. That's when they were reportedly approached by a gunman who fired 3 shots at Mr. Davitte.
"He is just somebody who we will truly miss and his relationship," said Marvin United Methodist Church Reverend Elizabeth Ackerman, of Davitte. "He would come out quietly work on the yard and cut the grass."
