SAFETY HARBOR, FL (WFLA) -

A motorcyclist was injured Friday evening when a car entered the path of the bike on Bayshore Blvd. at Seventh St. in Safety Harbor.

The accident occurred about 5:20 p.m.

According to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office traffic investigators, the driver of a 2004 Volkswagen Passat was headed north on Bayshore Blvd. and the driver of a 1993 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Bayshore.

The Passat driver, Joshua Miller, 28, of 655 Third Ave. N. in Safety Harbor, slowed to make a left turn onto Seventh Street, entering the path of the motorcycle. The Kawasaki struck the rear passenger side of the Passat, throwing the rider Joshua Santostefano, 24, of 359 Tavernier Circle in Oldsmar, off the bike.

Santostefano was flown to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Santostefano was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Miller was uninjured.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or speed were a factor in the crash. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.

The southbound lanes of Bayshore Blvd. were shutdown for several hours during the investigation but have been reopened.
