WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
A Winston-Salem restaurant that gives discounts to people who prayed before their meals is now stopping the practice.
Mary's Gourmet Diner gained national attention after a picture of a receipt was posted on a social media site.
It shows a 15% discount for praying in public. With that one line, came cheers and criticism.
Now, public outcry and a threat of legal action are putting an end to what some folks called a private gift.
"I think it's totally wrong for them to be able to step in and say she can do anything wrong in her own business. It's her business, if she runs it, she should be able to run it how she wants to run it,” said resident Jordan Smith.
Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation sent a letter saying the discount distinguishes between religious and non-religious customers, violating people's civil rights.
