Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (49-54) won the final game of the series against the Savannah Sand Gnats (65-34) on Friday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The final score was 5-2.

Savannah was first on the board in the second inning due to a wild pitch by GreenJackets starting pitcher, Chase Johnson. The team would score their final run in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly ball by Jorge Rivero.

After losing two straight, the GreenJackets sought revenge against the Sand Gnats and earned their victory due to a strong outing by starting pitcher, Chase Johnson, and explosive offense. The team finished the night with ten hits, five RBI and did not commit any errors.

Although it took until the fifth inning for Augusta to get on the board, they scored runs in their final four innings. Third baseman, Ryder Jones, tied the game for the GreenJackets in the fifth when he singled to right-center field. The team then took the lead in the sixth when, left-fielder, Rafael Rodriguez doubled to left field.

Ryder Jones had his second RBI single of the game in the seventh inning to put the GreenJackets ahead 3-1. A forced ground out plated the teams second run of the inning and fourth of the night. Second baseman, Jeremy Sy, scored the final run of the game for the GreenJackets with a solo home run on 1-0 pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning. The home run marks Sy’s tenth of the season.

Augusta’s starting pitcher, Chase Johnson (2-6) earned the win Friday night. In seven innings pitched, Johnson allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out five batters. Dan Slania earned his eleventh save of the season for the GreenJackets. Savannah’s starting pitcher, Ricky Knapp (4-6), took the loss. In six and one-thirds innings pitched he gave up eight hits, three earned runs and struck out three batters.
