A Pittsburgh doctor is gaining national attention for his unique tradition of singing to each baby he delivers.
Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja told ABC News he has delivered around 8,000 babies and sung to at least 6,000 of the infants.
Dr. Andrew-Jaja said he began the tradition while he was a resident and working with a physician who also sung to the babies he delivered.
“He was about to retire,” he explained. “He asked me to continue the tradition and I’ve done it ever since.”
He has a collection of songs he sings, including the traditional “Happy Birthday” and “What a Wonderful World.”
Dr. Andrew-Jaja’s talent was brought to light after the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center posted a video of him singing to a newborn on YouTube.
“When I’m singing to those babies I think I’m singing to a future important person. That’s the credit I give to all of them,” he said.
