 Now's it time to take a look at what's trending:

Today is Nelson Mandela International Day. The day was unanimously approved in 2009 by the U.N. General Assembly as a day of service. The former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize recipient died at 95 on December 5th of last year. This is the first time the day has been celebrated since his death.

Legendary actress Elaine Stritch has died. According to a longtime friend, The Tony and Emmy Award winner died at her Birmingham, Michigan home surrounded by family. Stritch is known for her longtime career on Broadway, as well as movie roles and guest appearances on THE COSBY SHOW, LAW & ORDER, and  30 ROCK--  where she gained a new generation of fans playing Alex Baldwin's mother. Stritch was 89 years old.

This year's MTV Video Music Awards seem to be all about Beyonce. The Grammy Award winner is leading the pack with 8 nominations including video of the year, best female video, and best choreography. Australian newcomer Iggy Azalea and rapper Eminem have 7 nominations each. The VMAs air live Sunday, August 24th.

A lot of changes happening at Marvel. According to ABC News, the COO of the company announced that Captain America will now be black. He says Sam Wilson, who is known as the Falcoln, will take over as the Captain in October.  He adds that this will be strictly in the comics. Most recently, the company announced that the new Thor would be a woman.
