EVANS,GA – A local gymnastics coaching staff has recently expanded to include a former Olympian and her husband, making Haydens Gymnastics and Cheer Academy (Haydens) one of less than a dozen gyms in the country boasting two former Olympians on their coaching staff.
Coach Tunde Pentek Johnson joined the Haydens staff on June 23rd, 2014. Johnson was a member of the 2004 Olympic Gymnastics Team representing her native country of Hungary. Johnson also was a member of the 2003 and 2005 World Championship team from Hungary. Prior to her move to Haydens, she and her husband, Brandon coached gymnastics in San Antonio, Texas.
Johnson joins former Olympian and gym owner Dan Hayden. Prior to owning Haydens Gymnastics and Cheer Academy, Hayden was an alternate on the 1988 US Mens Olympic team and collegiate national champion for Arizona State University. Hayden also was a member of the 1985 and 1987 World Championships team.
Dan Hayden on welcoming Tunde Pentek Johnson to his coaching staff: “The addition of Tunde to our coaching staff raises the coaching caliber at Haydens to an elite level; less than a dozen gyms in the country can say they have two former Olympians coaching their athletes. Gymnasts get the best of both worlds training here under two very different, but effective coaching philosophies: Eastern European and American. This opens the door for our gym to become a training destination for those seeking an elite level of coaching”
This coaching addition comes on the heels of a very successful year for Haydens. Most notably: Two gymnasts competed in the Junior Olympic National Championship, and the Level 7 competitive team took home a state championship title. In addition, two gymnasts have officially committed to compete at the collegiate level, at Penn State and University of Georgia, respectively.
