Sarasota County's 'Moth Men' to debut on America's Got Talent

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A Tampa Bay dance troupe will make a big premiere on America’s Got Talent this weekend.

They're called 'The Moth Men'. But, calling them a dance troupe doesn't really do them justice. They put on a show that's never been done before. It's a synergy of art forms that defies gravity, all executed with elegance and grace while gliding in flight.

"It's not just up and down, it's not just Peter Pan poses. It's artistry and dance in the air," said Moth Men Director Jennifer Ragan Kelly.

"Our goal was to give them something they had never seen before,” Kelly stated.

Kelly runs On The Fly Productions based out of Englewood in Sarasota County. Her performers that make up The Moth Men are from all over the country.

The group of 12 is made up of 9 men and 3 women between the ages of 18 and 35. And their shows are stunning and unique.

Kelly described, “We love to mix together dance, obviously storytelling and acting, my favorite part of it. Cirque du Soleil-type acts like aerial, and flying effects, which is kind of our specialty. Nobody’s doing it at the level that we’re doing it.”

It’s all done while being hoisted in the air. Its stuff you see in your dreams, and to appear on national television is a dream come true.

"To get this kind of exposure is incredible!” exclaimed Kelly.

But making these shows is not easy. Aside from air travel, the shows take up a lot of space and is very expensive to produce.

Kelly said the group funds everything on their own.

"It's at a point where we really have to make or break to keep going,” she said.

But The Moth Men feel their art needs to be shown to the world. And this Sunday they finally get their chance.

"I'm excited to show what we've been doing kind of on our own for so long. I feel like this is it. This is the time and we're ready for it," Kelly said.

And the world is likely to take notice.

You can catch The Moth Men on America's Got Talent this Sunday at 9 p.m. on News Channel 8.
