LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (WFLA TV) -

A sex offender who was found in Louisiana with a missing a 16-year-old Valrico girl was released from the hospital Friday and booked into jail.

Stephen Myers was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges of attempted first degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Myers is accused of manipulating teenager Ashley Lyon into leaving town with him. Lyon suffers from bipolar disorder and did not have her medication with her.

Lyon's family and friends embarked on a social media campaign to spread the word about her June 11 disappearance. They also posted flyers and notified the media.

A truck stop clerk in Louisiana called 911 after the pair came in her store and she recognized them from the Nancy Grace Show. Myers then led authorities on a chase. He stabbed himself before K9 officers subdued him.

Myers and Lyon were hospitalized with stab wounds. Lyon is listed in serious but stable condition in a Louisiana hospital.
