Mom Accused of Branding Children to Know Which Kids Are Hers

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida -

(KRON) — A Florida woman is out on bail but still facing charges that she branded her children so she would know which kids were hers.

23-year old Kayla Oxenham is facing felony child abuse charges after doctors say they found injuries on the woman’s five and seven-year old children.

The kids tell authorities their mom used a lighter to burn a stick and then branded the children by putting the hot stick on their arms.

Police say Oxenham, who is reportedly works as a medical assistant, told the children the branding had two purposes, so that the kids could have ice cream and so that she could identify which children were hers.

Oxenham had previously been investigated for allegedly grabbing the five-year old by the hair and slamming her head into a wall.
