Ft. Bragg soldier reunited with dog that saved his life

Posted: Updated:
Wake County, NC - A special soldier now gets to live out his golden years in retirement. While he's saved countless lives, he doesn't have any medals and a good rubdown is all he needs for a reward.

Staff Sergeant Andy Wolf did two tours in Afghanistan with his trusted cohort Iras, a bomb sniffing dog who smelled his way through more than 100 combat missions.

They were inseparable. Iras was hurt and had to have emergency surgery. He lost his spleen and had to be medivaced to Germany. But four months later, they were back in Afghanistan, dodging IEDs

Iras saved Wolf's life. Once when they were about to cross a bridge, Iras sniffed, stopped, and simply sat down. There was an IED under the bridge.

Eventually they had to go their separate ways. Staff Sergeant Wolf went home to his wife, Samantha, and boys, Tyler and Dominick in Morrisville, North Carolina.

But this week they were reunited. Wolf said, "We didn't lose one soldier or one piece of equipment through every mission." Now the two are together again.
