Augusta, GA -
News Channel 6 Investigates has been looking into a local roofing company after homeowners came forward with complaints. At least 5 homeowners have told us that Hughes Roofing took money from them, but never returned to to finish the roofing jobs.
Earlier this week, a judge ordered the owner of the company, Sean Hughes, to pay back a Columbia County Homeowner $4,000 because he didn't complete the contracted roof repairs.
Also this week, Columbia County officials cited Hughes for not pulling a permit on the job and for not having a business license in the county. We spoke with Sean Hughes about all of the allegations.
Investigative Reporter Mike Miller asked Hughes, "Can you see how all of this, this pattern of behavior, looks suspicious and almost seems like a scam?"
Hughes replied, "Well, if it was a scam, I wouldn't be coming down here to talk to you about it. I'm not ashamed of anything that I've done because I know that I didn't do anything wrong. I've been wrongfully accused."
Hughes is set to appear in court next week to face the two county violation charges. And then in two weeks, he will have to appear in court again to pay back the $4,000. A judge told him that if he doesn't show up with cash, he will lock him up.
