***UPDATED at 5:15 P.M. on Tuesday, May 27th***

WJBF News Channel 6's Deon Guillory uncovered a long, criminal past for the victim of a deadly shooting early Tuesday morning in Washington, Georgia.

While passing a basketball with her grand kids, Minnie Evans is remembering what happened just a few hours earlier in her quiet Washington, Georgia neighborhood.

"I think it was 3 shots that I heard and I thought it was a firecracker and I got up and thought it was the children," said Evans.

Those shots coming from a house on Buster Avenue, just a couple of doors down from Evans.

Evans said, "Now that's what's real shocking. Very shocking to have it. And I mean, for it to be this close."

Investigators say Jomarkus Callaway shot 31-year-old Carlos Wynn twice in the chest.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that Callaway has been arrested before on drug charges.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said witnesses say Callaway shot Wynn in self-defense.

A search of the Georgia Department of Corrections shows that Wynn has a violent, criminal past.

Wynn has been in jail on three separate occasions, between December 2003 to December 2012, with his longest time behind bars being just more than a year.

Wynn served time for crimes ranging from firearm possession during a crime and drug charges.

Police say this deadly shooting is the first one of 2014 in Washington, Georgia and the first in at least 10 years.

It's something Evans says she doesn't see on her street.

"We don't have things like this," said Evans.

The GBI is still investigating this case.

At this point, WJBF News Channel 6 is told Jomarkus Callaway is not charged in this deadly shooting and the GBI says there are no plans at this time to arrest him.

He is in jail with warrants pending by the Washington Police Department for an incident that is not related to the shooting.
