Augusta, GA -
With his attorney and wife at this side, Coach Campbell held a press conference this afternoon. Although the coach didn't speak, we did get a statement from his attorney about the incident, as well as an apology.
"Coach Campbell apologizes for touching Mr. Glass. He has offered to personally apologize to Mr. Glass with his council present," Attorney Vic Hawk said.
Two days after he was arrested and charged with simple battery, Legendary Coach Larry Campbell is opening up about an alleged fight he took part in. Campbell's Attorney, Vic Hawk, says the altercation got started when a school employee made remarks about Coach Campbell's son.
"He got his attention by grabbing his shirt. He asked him to stop making disparaging statements about his son. That's what any parent would do under circumstances like that," Hawk said.
The victim, Shaun Glass, told officers that during the incident, Coach Campbell threatened to kill him, however, Campbell says that didn't happen.
"At no time did Coach Campbell threaten to kill or harm Mr. Glass. Coach Campbell would not do so. The citizens of Lincoln County know that to be true," Hawk said.
In the coming weeks, a grand jury will hear the evidence and decide whether to indicted Coach Campbell. Hawk says despite the incident, the coach is still receiving tremendous support from the county.
"He does everything he can to maintain the dignity of his position with the football program and with Lincoln County Athletics. It was just an excited set of circumstances that lead to the touching. He apologizes for it," Hawk said.
We did reach out to the victim, Shaun Glass. We are still waiting on a statement from him.
