With news of Helen Blocker-Adam's financial problems, News Channel 6 Investigates did some checking into the backgrounds of the other mayoral candidates.
A check of court records shows Charles Cummings was cited for operating a dance hall without a license back in 2010. Records also show that Cummings did not show up to court for that case. Because of that, a judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Cummings tells News Channel 6 Investigates that issue has been resolved with the courts. He says he was brought in for that bench warrant during a traffic stop.
We have found out that last month, Capital One Bank filed a lawsuit against Lori Myles asking for more than $4,000. We reached out to
Alvin Mason -- as we reported when it happened back in 2011 -- was arrested and charged with simple battery after his wife told investigators that he grabbed her by the neck. Prosecutors didn't move forward with the case.
We also looked into the background of Senator Hardie Davis, but we couldn't find any court records attached to him in Richmond County. We also looked at records in Dekalb and Fulton Counties, in the Atlanta area where he would have spent a lot of time as a state senator, but again, no background there.
As always, if you have an investigative tip for us, please email News Channel 6 Investigates at email@example.com or email our Investigative Reporter, Mike Miller, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Myles has responded to our story:
Thereporting of my Capital One account is nowhere synonymous of the intentional attacks done to Helen in these past few days.Even as media continues to try to assist the voters with derogatory information, this campaign is going down to the wire. I think that before reporting possible malicious information to ruin the candidacy of anyone's campaign or character in order to leave one man standing is vicious.I have not been contacted by your media, for as you know.. I don't have a problem giving an answer. That's Leadership...
Do your homework media... Investigate. Please report my contacts with this company, it's settlement, it's big business "strategic approach" to buy accounts from other creditors, and my state and national paperwork to make sure a new company does/did not bully me in order to make money off of an account that had been paid down, before it was sold to another company.I answered this suit, and am awaiting a court date.My life is an open book..... NEXT!
Helen should have stayed in the fight!Your pressure, or pressure from present and former "failed leadership" is not Augusta's best choice.Augusta needs someone who is not afraid to address this city's inconsistent, demeaning status quo of anyone who questions it's practices. We are truly sick and tired of being "sick and tired." WAKE UP AUGUSTA, HELEN's DILEMMA is one more reason....."WE CAN'T WAIT" to vote DR. LORI MYLES as the NEXT MAYOR of AUGUSTA...
