PITTSBORO, N.C. -

A bald eaglet was killed and another seriously injured when Thursday’s storms swept across their nest at Jordan Lake.

A live camera, the Jordan Lake EagleCam, captured what happened. The two babies slid off the nest, dropping 60 feet to the ground. Unable to fly, they hit the surface like a falling rock.

The surviving eaglet was taken to a local raptor rescue service, where she was being cared for Friday night. If she survives, she will be taken to a raptor center in Charlotte for more rehab.

"She's not able to fly," said veterinarian Rebekah Boan. "We're going to keep her until she is stable enough to be transferred to Carolina Raptor Center."

The EagleCam has been highly popular with people with its amazing images of the inside of the eagles’ nest.

Live video on Friday afternoon showed the empty nest, which was damaged. The mother has not been located. And its unclear if the surviving eaglet will be able to be reunited with its mother.
