GRHealth has filed a Letter of Intent with the Georgia Department of Community Health with their proposal to build a 21st-century community teaching hospital in Columbia County.
Read the text of a press release we received regarding the filing below:
On Tuesday afternoon, GRHealth filed a Letter of Intent with the Georgia Department of Community Health to build a 21st-century community teaching hospital in Columbia County. Our letter is the first step in filing a Certificate of Need, which we expect to submit to the state in the next 30 days.
GRHealth is one of three bidders vying to build this new hospital. The Columbia County Board of Commissioners voted in March to support any of the three that can successfully obtain a CON.
This step demonstrates our commitment to building a community teaching hospital and health care campus in Columbia County that will contribute to the economic, social, cultural, and physical health and wellness of its residents and neighbors.
The proposed site for the campus is in the Grovetown area, and the hospital will cost about $195 million. The original RFP projected a higher capital investment; however, the hospital is just the beginning of a three-phase plan.
We first presented our RFP for the health campus to the Columbia County Commission in January. The comprehensive plan would include the hospital, an open-staff model with the majority of providers being local, community physicians; an associated medical office building with outpatient services; and a satellite teaching environment.
In keeping with our three-part mission, this campus would provide us with opportunities to more effectively provide wellness, disease prevention, early detection and treatment to one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, while offering our faculty, students and staff opportunities for investigation, training, and instruction, and to provide cutting-edge clinical care.
We believe that our proposal is the most forward-thinking. By leveraging health care and IT solutions that some of our partners have not yet made widely available, Columbia County could soon lay claim to the most technologically advanced hospital in the nation.
We will continue to keep you informed as this process unfolds.
