Augusta, GA -
A former Augusta Mayor says a current candidate for the seat he once held should step aside.
Bob Young took to social media to say Helen Blocker-Adams should take the high road and drop out of the Mayor's race.
As we told you Tuesday, Blocker-Adams admitted to owing more than $70,000 in past debts.
"I think that would be appropriate, in this case. She needs to do the right thing, take the high road, step aside, and deal with her outstanding debts. This is not good news to come out a week before the election," said Young, who said he is not supporting any candidate for mayor and was speaking for himself.
"I take the high road and stand firm to my principal. Who is he, or anybody else, to tell me to drop out? I mean, no, no, I've got faith in God. My faith is in God. God got me in this race and we're going all the way to the end on May the 20th," said Blocker-Adams.
Blocker-Adams says, not counting Mayor Young's statement, she has received tremendous support from the community since the reports of her unpaid debt.
