Aiken, SC -
A new water treatment plant could be coming to South Carolina sooner than we think.
The reading of the ordinance to authorize a loan for nearly $4 million to pay for the Silver Bluff Water Treatment Plant passed at Monday night's Aiken City Council meeting.
We spoke with the city manager, who says the goal is to have the plant up and running by next summer. In the meantime, he says borrowing money internally will save a lot of money in the long run.
"We have the money on hand that we can use internally. That saves us a little bit of money, so that we don't have to go to a bond issue...and pay interest on that and pay fees on the bond issue," says Aiken City Manager Richard Pearce.
Also, at the meeting, the City Council members voted to carry over a vote to raise the millage rate. They will hold a work session and discuss it at their next meeting in June.
