Atlanta, GA -
One busy mom has a secret weapon in the battle to lose weight. She said she was tired of looking the way she looked, and she decided to use technology to drop 100 pounds.
Yvette Vajcner is like so many women: She's always on the go, especially as a busy mom of three little ones.
Just over a year ago, Yvette weighed 259 pounds.
"I was miserable. I was crying. I felt like I was dying inside my body."
But she stepped on the scale for a health assessment at work, and, that weekend, Yvette decided to make a lifestyle change.
"I got rid of pre-packaged foods. I started buying produce, lean meat."
Yvette researched what her body mass index and caloric intake should be. She said goodbye to her fast food habit and stopped skipping breakfast. She walked on the treadmill at least five days a week.
Yvette didn't have a fancy weight loss plan.
What she did have, that worked wonders, is a free app called My Fitness Pal.
"Well, the app is really simple to use. It shows you your calories for the day, the food that you've taken in, and also extra food that you can take in because of exercise that you've done. So I scan it and it tell me exactly how many calories and all my different fat."
And, in the first week of her new lifestyle, Yvette lost nine pounds.
"Every week after that, it went from five pounds to three pounds to two pounds a week. There were weeks where I wouldn't lose anything and I'd get really discouraged. But, I think the anger and the frustration, I kind of channeled it to motivate myself."
After just one year, Yvette lost 100 pounds.
She says she succeeded for one reason-- she stuck to her plan.
"We do want instant results, but it's not going to happen. It's not realistic. After you make that goal, make another goal, and just keeping making goals and just keep at it."
