JACKSONVILLE, FL (WFLA) - An airline didn't let an Army veteran on board a plane with his service dog in Miami, WAWS in Jacksonville reported.

Kevin Crowell served for over 20 years, saw countless hours of combat and now suffers from the post-traumatic stress disorder. He is a retired Sergeant First Class and has a service dog Bella who helps him cope.

Bella has been with Crowell through banquets, parties, award ceremonies, even graduations. But last week, traveling from Miami to Key West with his family for a Wounded Warrior's project event, he was asked off an American Airlines flight, according to WAWS.

"The flight attendant told me she said the policy states no pets in bulkheading, and I said, 'Again, Bella's not a pet. She's a service dog. According to the law, she meets the requirements of a service dog," Crowell explained in an interview with WAWS.

But the airline representative had told him before Bella was ok in the bulkhead area. And the Americans With Disabilities Act guarantees that service animals can travel with their owners, according to WAWS. However, the American Airlines staffers took Crowell and his group off the flight.

The airline representative told Lisa Crowell, Kevin's wife, that she is looking into the case and will go over boarding practices with the staff in Miami.

"I didn't join the military in the 80s and retire in 2013 to be discriminated against, especially in the United States," the veteran told WAWS.
