Augusta, GA -
Cloudy skies with light rain at the First Tee of Augusta could not keep 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders from Richmond County and Burke County schools from the 1st annual National School Program Team Challenge held Friday.
The First Tee Life and Golf Skills Curriculum is taught by Physical education teachers in Richmond and Burke counties to more than 30,000 students annually. It addresses character and wellness deficits for area youth and teaches them core values that will enable greater success in the future.
"The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders participated in chipping, putting, target practice, driving, and team building all set on a golf course and the event would not be possible without the support from local sponsors," said Jill Brown, First Tee of Augusta's executive director.
"Nothing but smiles as the kids from Richmond and Burke county schools enjoyed the friendly competition as parents and teachers looked on and maybe the next Masters champion will come from the First Tee of Augusta," said Suzanne Sharkey, from Georgia Power.
The First Tee of Augusta was founded in 2001 and helps out kids from 38 schools here in the CSRA.
We would like to congratulate the following students from A. Dorothy Hains Elementary School for winning The First Tee of Augusta’s 1st Annual National School Program Skills Challenge: Abagail Glosson, Amarion Grant, Kiara Smith, Jadan Lee, Brianna Cascino, Rondarius Carter.
