Fire-K 5K Benefits Firefighters With Cancer

Posted: Updated:
Augusta, GA - Firefighters from the CSRA will gather this weekend to battle a danger much greater than flames: Cancer.

The first-ever Fire-K Five K at Cross Creek High School will benefit firefighters from our area fighting the disease.

The race is open to anyone interested in running to support a great cause, but the firefighters will take on the added challenge of running in their gear -- which can weigh around 65 pounds.

Numerous studies have found that firefighters face a much higher risk of developing cancer than the rest of the general population.

The race takes place at Cross Creek High School, located at 3855 Old Waynesboro Road, in Augusta.

Participants can register Saturday morning on-site.
