Graniteville, SC – April 24, 2014 – The Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club presented by Electrolux got off to a terrific start today with 7 players in the clubhouse under par. Theo Humphrey, tournament leader at -3 birdied 2 of the first 3 holes on his way to a very respectable finish. From Connecticut and headed to Vanderbilt in the fall, Humphrey is currently #20 on the Golfweek rankings.
Brad Dalke and Sam Horsfield, early favorites who are both returning for their third tournament, are tied at -2 for second.
Scottie Scheffler, the nation’s #1 ranked junior and #13 in the world, had a solid day coming in at -1. Cameron Champ, a product of The First Tee Sacramento, was 4 under on the par fives including an eagle on number 10. The only other eagle today came from Ireland’s Robin Dawson on hole 15. Robin’s determined play put in him the clubhouse even par as the low international along with Renato Paratore from Italy, and Andy Zhang from China.
However, the story of the day was the tough conditions of the course, especially holes 17 and 18. The infamous greens will only prove to get harder as the week looks to remain dry and sunny.
