Water Clear for Use in Keysville

Posted: Updated:
Keysville, GA - The water is clear again and okay to drink in Keysville, but city leaders say there are a few things you need to do before you drink it.

Neighbors are still volunteering to take bottled water to those who want it.

"I don't want nobody sick, especially when it comes to the water," said Jery Couch.

Couch and several others loaded his truck with packs of bottled water to go to the Keysville Nursing Home.

Couch said, "I took 10 by there last night. I'm taking 10 more there in just a minute or so."

The water concerns come after city leaders put an alert to all neighbors not to drink it.

News Channel 6 is told a pump valve wasn't closing and mud was getting through and into the water supply.

"The pumps were just pulling mud up out of the well and, you know, it was not a big problem, but it scared everybody," said Rob Richards, the Director of the Keysville Water and Maintenance.

City leaders say the water is good now, but you should run it until the water turns clear before you drink it.

Richards said, "Everything's good. We're just waiting on the water tower to fill back up. People just need to flush their lines. Whatever little bit is left in their lines, but everything is good."

As Couch delivers the water, he's happy with the city's fast response.

Couch said, "I talked to them about the pump this morning and the problems that they had down there and they have it solved. So I'm kinda happy about that."

Richards says if there is still concern about the water, boil it first.

You can also call the water department to test it or you can get bottled water from Keysville City Hall.
