Update: Suspect identified in Subway Restaurant robbery

GREENVILLE, N.C. - One man is in custody after he attempted to rob a Greenville Subway restaurant Saturday night.

Greenville Police say Willie James Woods, 36, entered the Subway located at 803 Moye Blvd. at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday night. Woods had a shotgun and demanded money from employees.

Police say Woods was in store for a short period of time before he ran from the scene toward Stantonsburg Rd.

Employees and customers were in the store and the time but no one was injured. Woods did not get away with anything from the store.

Greenville Police were on the scene within minutes. At the same time, Vidant Medical Center Police heard radio traffic and saw the suspect enter hospital property.

Vidant Police took Woods into custody without incident. Vidant Police found a discarded shot gun behind several businesses on Stantonsburg Rd.

Woods is charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. He was placed in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $150,000 bond.

The Greenville Police Department thanked Vidant Medical Center Police for their assistance in the case.
