Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (8-6) lost to the Savannah Sand Gnats (9-4) Wednesday night 4-1.
GreenJackets, left handed pitcher, Luis Ysla (0-1), pitched 2.2 innings and gave up four runs.
Similar to Tuesday night’s game, the Sand Gnats were first to score. Gavin Cecchini began the game with a double to left field. He advanced to third on a ground out by Jeff McNeil. After L.J. Mazzilli walked, Jared King grounded out and Cecchini scored.
The Sand Gnats scored their last three runs in the third inning. Ysla walked Patrick Biondi, who stole second base. With Gavin Cecchini batting, Biondi stole third base. A sacrifice fly by McNeil led Biondi to score. Jared King doubled to left field to advance Cecchini to third. A single through the hole by Stefan Sabol allowed Cecchini and King to score.
Shawn Payne scored the GreenJackets’ only run in the fourth inning. Payne went 1-4, with a single. He stole second base when Ryder Jones struck out. With Payne on second, Sand Gnats pitcher Robert Whalen threw a wild pitch, and Payne advanced to third. Payne scored on an error by Sand Gnats’ catcher, Colton Plaia.
The GreenJackets head to Lexington for a three game series starting Thursday, April 17th. The team returns back to Lake Olmstead Stadium on Monday, April 21st with a weeklong homestand against the Hagerstown Suns and Asheville Tourists.
