GreenJackets Win Game 2 of Mini-Doubleheader

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (8-5) beat the Savannah Sand Gnats (8-4) Tuesday night 2-1. 

The Sand Gnats were first to score. In the top of the third inning, Gavin Cecchini singled deep to shortstop. A throwing error by Chase Johnson, allowed Cecchini to advance to third. Jeff McNeil singled to left field and Cecchini scored. 

The GreenJackets tied the game in the fifth inning. Christian Arroyo began the inning with a single up the middle. With John Polonius at bat, Arroyo advanced to second on a balk. After Polonius walked Tyler Ross singled to center field, moving Arroyo to third and Polonius to second. A ground out by Cristian Paulino allowed Arroyo score. 

The game remained tied through the allotted seven innings. It was in the eighth inning that the GreenJackets pulled out the win. Tyler Ross doubled to left field. Randy Ortiz replaced Ross at second, and Sand Gnats’ pitcher, Randy Knapp, then intentionally walked Shawn Payne. With runners on first and second, Ryder Jones singled up the middle and Ortiz scored the winning run.

The final game of the three-game series is Wednesday, April, 16th. It’s Bingo Night presented by Georgia Natural Gas. Every fan will receive a Bingo Card as they enter the gates to be able to play and win all night. GreenJackets LHP Luis Ysla (0-0, 4.26 ERA) will make the start against either Savannah RHP Miller Diaz (0-1,11.57 ERA) or RHP Robert Whalen (1-0 2.25 ERA).
