Purple Up Day Honors Military Children

Posted: Updated:
Augusta, GA - Fort Gordon celebrated Purple Up Day Tuesday, April 15th.
April marks national "Month of the Military Child," a time to honor and celebrate military-connected children and youth. Freedom Park School celebrated with all students and staff wearing purple.
Fort Gordon Garrison Commander Colonel Samuel Anderson was there for the big day, along with the US Army Signal Corps ceremonial band.

Jalicia Jones is President of the Elementary Student Council

"Purple Up Day you can support people and you know, just wearing purple all the time can support military children."

Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is a combination of Army green, Marine red, Coast Guard Navy and Air Force blue.

Wearing purple is also a military expression that symbolizes loyalty to a joint service operation.
