Atlanta, GA (AP) -
Authorities say a motorist who was inspecting his stranded vehicle on the shoulder of an Atlanta freeway was struck and killed by a passing truck.
CBS Atlanta reports that the collision happened Saturday morning, on the shoulder of Interstate 75 near Cleveland Avenue.
Atlanta police Officer John Chafee tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that a preliminary investigation indicates that the man was standing in front of his vehicle, which had its hood up, when a box truck slammed into him. Authorities were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
The dead motorist's name was not released, and few other details were immediately available.
Authorities say motorists are urged to dial 511 to request a HERO unit when they have a vehicle breakdown or wreck on the interstate.
