Celebrating Desegregation

Posted: Updated:
Columbia, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina is wrapping up its yearlong commemoration of the 50th anniversary of its desegregation with music, dance and gospel tunes.

The event is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts.

The event honors the struggles and aspirations of the civil rights movement with short monologues and videos.

It will also be marked with a performance of a new choreographic work by USC dance faculty Thaddeus Davis and Tanya Wideman.

The USC Gospel Choir and the university's professional resident dance company also will perform.
