LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (WBTW) -

Horry County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Brian VanAernum confirms a man drowned Saturday morning in Little River.

He says HCFR received the call shortly before 9:30 a.m. The incident happened in a pond behind Mulligan's Sports Bar and Restaurant.

Coroner Robert Edge says the victim is 63-year-old Michel Melanson from Canada.  Edge says no one knows why Melason was near the pond Saturday morning, but says he was visiting the Grand Strand on a golf trip.

Edge says he was only in the water for a few minutes.  An autopsy was conducted on Sunday.
