RALEIGH, N.C. -

A new law means North Carolina residents are no longer allowed to register to vote during early voting. So they're just about out of time if they want to cast ballots for the May 6 primary.

Friday, April 11,is the deadline to register and be able to vote in the primary. It requires stopping by a county elections office or postmarking an application by Friday. People who apply at DMV and public assistance offices also qualify if they turn it in by Friday.

The unregistered used to be able to register and vote on the same day during the early voting period. That option has been eliminated due to a 2013 law that also reduced early voting days.

Voters can print the form online, fill it out and drop it off at any local post office or public library.

For this primary, early voting begins April 24 and ends May 3.
