Augusta, GA -
There's rarely a better place to be than Augusta National Golf Club...especially on a day like Thursday...for the first round of the Masters.
This is the place that Bobby Jones built, and a place where Bob Jones comes every April. But, it wasn't easy to get here.
"I applied for 25 years before I ever got my first ticket. Then, about 10 years ago, I got my first ticket and I've been coming ever since," says Dr. Bob Jones.
A quarter century of no's until Augusta National Golf Club said yes...a green light to check out the greenest grass you'll ever see.
"When I was accepted, I was real proud of it. And, being my name is Bob Jones and this is in Augusta, it all fit in," says Dr. Jones says.
He used to practice podiatry. Now, he and and his wife, Marcia, get to take it easy and take in all this place has to offer.
"We go to one spot and park there and watch the people go by," he says.
"Tell him you enjoyed the food," Marcia says to Dr. Jones, off camera. "Oh yeah, and the beer," he says with a laugh.
Brad Means, reporting: "Dr. Jones served in the Army in the south Pacific during World War II. Fitting isn't it, that this member of the 'Greatest Generation' now gets to enjoy one of the greatest places on Earth?"
It is a place where he can roll up to his favorite spot, sometimes slowed by the crowds, or just by those wanting to say thanks. Thanks for your service, Dr. Bob Jones. Enjoy Masters week...you've more than earned it.
"This man has the most positive spirit, even with his illness. He's the most wonderful husband and patient and he deserves something good and I try to provide it for him," Marcia says.
Dr. Jones and Marcia say they plan to keep coming to the Masters for as many more years as they can.
