WJBF News Channel 6 has learned a 13-year-old boy has died after being struck by a vehicle on Milledgeville Road while reportedly running from a dog.
Demonta Collins was struck around 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, and was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.
Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division deputies responded to the 3500 block of Milledgeville Road in reference to a Traffic Accident with serious injuries. On the scene, investigators learned that Collins was struck by a vehicle while running from a dog. Collins reportedly ran from the dirt and grass area on the right/west side of the road into a vehicle’s path, causing the vehicle to strike him.
Collins was transferred to Georgia Regents Medical Center for medical injuries. He later died from those injuries.
The driver of a 2001 blue Acura that struck Collins has not been cited at this time.
Robyn Gledhill, the owner of the dog, named “Shadow”, was issued a citation for a violation of Georgia's State Leash Law.
