Green jacket excitement flows north for Monday After The Masters

Final preparations are underway for the 20th Annual Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After The Masters Tournament, scheduled for April 14 at The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort.

Just five days out from the event expected to draw 6,000 spectators to the North Strand, grounds crews were busy putting final touches on landscaping and beautifying the property.

Jeff Diehl, the course's PGA Head Pro, says the course's employees have been pulling 12-16 hour workdays to make sure its in tip-top shape. It hasn't come without a unique set of challenges, though.

"We don't get ice in Myrtle Beach and to get it twice [within] one month [this winter] was definitely a challenge for our superintendent and his staff, but it's a wow-factor golf course," Diehl said.

The 20th anniversary of the event is the seventh consecutive sell-out in recent years. Spectator tickets for the event sold out within hours of going on sale earlier this year.

"A lot of people come from Augusta - the PGA Tour players - and it's a highly stressed week at Augusta National," Diehl explained. "They kind of let loose a bit."

Sponsors and organizers know that the green jacket excitement flows north after Masters Sunday in Augusta, GA.

"This is where America goes to play is what we like to say," Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday's Chris King said. "What better event to showcase that than Monday After The Masters. To see the celebrities enjoy the same types of things in a Myrtle Beach golf experience that our guys in town for package play do."

The event embraced by the local community and Grand Strand golf market has grown, equaling big exposure for the town known as the "Golf Capital of the United States."

"We'll have Mike & Mike In The Morning here and it's America's most popular sports talk radio show here in the home of golf in America," King said.

In addition to gaining priceless national exposure through the ESPN show, SiriusXM Radio will broadcast live from Monday After The Masters, in addition to international travel writers being among spectators reviewing the event.
