Augusta, GA -
Today, many Augusta homes are brimming with Masters guests. And when company comes to town, you don't want to spend all your time in the kitchen.
Wednesday on Quick Cooking, Karin Calloway has a quick and easy recipe for Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake.
If you're entertaining out-of-town guests during the Masters Tournament or any other time, this week's Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake is a crowd-pleasing addition to a breakfast or brunch buffet. The bonus is that the recipe starts with a boxed cake mix.
For the cake base, I'll combine a French vanilla cake mix with a package of cheesecake flavored instant pudding, some sour cream, eggs, melted butter and some vanilla extract. Beat these together and then spread in a baking dish and bake.
The batter is topped with a delicious thick layer of cinnamon streusel. That's a combination of brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, vanilla and butter.
Combine some flour with golden brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract. Now cut in some cubes of butter until crumbly. Sprinkle the streusel over the cake and return to the oven to finish baking.
The cake is done when a pick inserted in the center comes out clean, which is about 60-65 minutes. The final touch is a sprinkling of powdered sugar. Bacon, scrambled eggs and a big fruit salad can complete your menu.
