Animal and nuisance removers were at Harbor Point Apartments Tuesday actively looking for a venomous and deadly gaboon viper.

Right now they are placing traps and heat sensing cameras around the area to try locating the snake.

News 2 called the town, state and local police asking who issues permits, where do people register if they have a venomous snake, but all the answers were the same.

"As far as venomous reptiles go, we don't have any sort of permit process at the state level," Will Dillman at the Department of Natural Resources said. "We don't have authority to issue a permit."

Unlike illegal weapons which could get as much as a $5,000 citation, these fatal fangs would be fined just under $2,000 if someone has one.

However, nuisance remover Raymond Covington said the source of where the snake came from may never be discovered because of the black market perpetuating sales of illegal snakes.
