Here is the latest information from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office concerning an early Tuesday morning deadly shooting.

Deputies responded to the area of Broad Street at the on-ramp to eastbound Gordon Highway in reference to gunshots being fired. Upon arrival, deputies were advised that the victim’s vehicle continued onto the on-ramp and headed east on Gordon Highway into South Carolina.

Moments later, North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers located the victim’s vehicle in a ditch on the 6000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.  Upon arrival, North Augusta officers located 28-year-old Antonio Counts, of Petal Place in North Augusta, dead from several apparent gunshot wounds. Donald Hill, 34, of Liberty Hill Road in North Augusta, was found suffering from several gunshots to the body, inside of the vehicle.

Hill was transported to an Augusta hospital where he is listed as being in stable condition. The investigation is believed to be an isolated incident,  is ongoing, and anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 706-821-1080.

This is the 7th homicide in Richmond County in 2014.

One man is dead and another person is wounded after an early morning shooting in Augusta. It happened shortly after 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning on the Gordon Highway near the Broad Street exit.

According to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen, Antonio Counts was pronounced dead at Georgia Regents Medical Center shortly before 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. An autopsy will be performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta. There is no word on the second victim's condition.

While the shooting happened in Richmond County, the incident involves two jurisdictions: The Richmond County Sheriff's Office and North Augusta Department of Public Safety. The shooting victims reportedly were found in a wrecked car near Greg's Gas Plus.
