Augusta, GA -
Day one of the Masters and the weather won.
"Have to. Forced to leave," said a patron.
They had no choice but to make a mass exodus just after 10:00 a.m.
"They told all the patrons to leave, they thought a storm was coming in," a patron told us.
Most of the patrons we talked to say this was out of their control. They have no say in how the weather plays out. But, for one person, it was a lot of buildup and no payoff.
"Get on a plane at 7:00 a.m., fly here, get off the plane, go on a long van ride, (laughs) And get to the gate," said one patron. "And, that's it?" we asked. "And that was my day. But, I didn't work, so it's been a great day (laughs)," he said.
They had such high hopes, but day one was a dream denied. "We were actually the last people in line before they shut it down, but it's tough," said another patron.
"I just wanted a t-shirt. That's my biggest disappointment. I have nothing to, no memorabilia to remember it," said another patron.
"Looking at the forecast, we thought we would at least get to go in there for a couple of hours. It's definitely disappointing," said another patron.
Disappointing for Monday, for sure. But, maybe the conditions will cooperate for your next trip. Just make sure to pack a good attitude and you'll be fine.
"It was really fun and I got to see a lot of things and it was my first time and I want to come again," a patron told us.
Patrons who were asked to leave during the practice round Monday will be guaranteed an opportunity to buy practice tickets for next year.
