Evans, GA -
Kim Phillips is a veteran in the classroom but this year brings something brand new. She's teaching kindergarten for the first time. "My principal thought that I was a very nurturing person so she thought I might enjoy teaching kindergarten. I had once told her that before I retired I really wanted to teach kindergarten, so she just gave me my wish." This big change comes after she taught 2nd grade for 20 years. "They're just beginning so that is a lot of fun getting to see them grow from the very bottom. They just go so far so that's just very rewarding seeing them mature as readers and learners and socially also." Ms. Phillips also gets to let it all hang out. "It's been a lot of fun because I get to do a lot of singing and dancing and acting out and they just respond to that." But don't think she's forgotten all those years with all those 2nd graders. "They always come back to visit me and I like to keep in touch with them and when I have conferences with parents I always see please come back and let me know if I can do anything for your families and help your child out in any way. I love to see them grow." Way to go Kim Phillips, teaching and loving these children. It's a great career that pays tribute to the people who helped her get here. "I guess I can say I had a very nurturing mother and grandmother and father too. They believed in showing us a lot of love and I love children and I just want to give that back to them."
