BRANDON FL (WFLA) -

A Brandon man accused of staging a burglary at his home so he'd have an excuse to miss work wound up in jail instead.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies say Dwayne Yeager told them that his wife insisted that he go to work, but he didn't want to, so he made up a story about a burglary at their home.

Detectives responded to a call at 1037 Bridlewood Way at 7:25 a.m. after Yeager called the HCSO non-emergency line saying he just came home and discovered his house was broken into.

When deputies arrived at the home, they saw the front door open and the inside of the home looked like it had been ransacked. The front bedroom windows and blinds were also open.

Deputies talked to people in the neighborhood who say Yeager was seen leaving his home at 6:30 a.m. and returned at 7:15 a.m. where he walked in the front door, lifted the blinds and opened the front bedroom window. He then allegedly waited in his front yard for deputies.

Investigators say Yeager admitted to staging the robbery when deputies confronted him about the discrepancies in his story.

Yeager told them he did not think he should have to go to jail. However, deputies arrested him on one count of giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

The online jail booking report says that Yeager is employed at Dooson Hydro Tech in Tampa.
