A bull that was rescued from a retention pond in Hillsborough County has gone back to his herd!

The good news came when Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy who helped rescue the bull, now named "Lucky," went to check on him on Sunday. Deputy Christina Ammons found him in a herd with about 20 other cows.

The 20-year-old bull was found last week, nearly drowning in a retention pond on Madison Avenue in Riverview.

Deputy Ammons arrived on scene, finding the 1,000 pound bull submerged in the water about six-feet from the shoreline. She immediately got into the pond and lifted the bull's head out of the water to prevent him from drowning.

Another deputy stood by the pond with a rifle to shoot any alligators that may be in the water.

Ammons stood in the water with the 1,000 pound bull for about 45 minutes until Hillsborough County Fire Rescue sent crew out with equipment to pull the bull out.

The bull was not injured and was walking around about 30 minutes later.
