PALMETTO, FL (WFLA) - A less than cooperative burglary suspect suffered a puncture wound from a K-9 bite Saturday night before his arrest on a variety of charges.

Jeremy Riffe, 43, was booked into the Manatee County Jail where he is being held on a bond of $2,120.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report a deputy encountered the suspect just after 9 p.m. in the 1600 block of 16th Ave. East in Palmetto. Riffe, who was carrying a gas can, an industrial sprayer and some bolt cutters, was walking along some railroad tracks.

When the deputy asked the suspect what he was doing Riffe ran off into a wooded area. A perimeter was set up and additional MCSO deputies – including a K-9 unit – were dispatched to the scene to assist in the search.

K-9 Rex located the suspect hiding in some dense brush. Riffe was bitten by Rex on his left hamstring and upper right arm. He was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released into custody.

He was booked into the jail just before midnight. Riffe, who is no stranger to law enforcement in Manatee County, is facing one count of possession of burglary tools, one count of loitering and prowling and one count of resisting arrest without violence.

Riffe’s prior arrests include charges of child abuse, battery, burglary, theft, criminal mischief and reckless driving.

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

It sounds like a wild fabrication: A spitting cobra, being prepared for a dish in a restaurant in southern China, bit and killed a chef 20 minutes after its head had been chopped off.

The may look fluffy and cute, but these caterpillars are anything but. Under all that fur on the puss caterpillar are venomous bristles that break off into the skin when touched by humans and cause serious pain.
