Columbia County, GA -
News Channel 6 has confirmed that Former Columbia County Deputy Tax Commissioner Dwight Johnson is planning to run for Kay Allen's open seat. Allen stepped down as Tax Commissioner earlier this month after county officials requested that Governor Nathan Deal look into alleged misconduct in Allen's office.
County officials say Allen collected more than $160,000 in fees from the cities of Grovetown and Harlem, despite the fact that state law says the fees are supposed to go to the county.
