WIP's funds are raised by women... and given to groups providing services for women and/or women with children- often for specific programs. Girls On The Run is one of those.
As Kam Kyzer, with The Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA explains, it's not about competitive racing, but personal growth.
"Youth development program for girls ages 8-13 and it helps girls develop the skills they need to navigate life right now and to prepare them for their future."
This year, recipients included groups that work to improve girls' math skills... that provide services for women with cancer... and another that specializes in children and families separated because of abuse or neglect, called Kids Restart, Inc.
Its $30,000 grant will go to supervised visitation between parents and their children in foster care.
