Women In Philanthropy Milestone: Grant Funding Now Exceeds a Half-Million Dollars

Posted: Updated:
Augusta, GA - Great news for several non-profits in the CSRA today as Women In Philanthropy hosted its 6th Annual Spring Luncheon.

Seven groups serving women and children received grants totaling $112,000. But that's just -part- of the story...

This one was a milestone:  in 6 years, Women In Philanthropy for the CSRA has funded 28 local grants totaling $523,300.

WIP's funds are raised by women... and given to groups providing services for women and/or women with children- often for specific programs. Girls On The Run is one of those.

As Kam Kyzer, with The Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA explains, it's not about competitive racing, but personal growth.

"Youth development program for girls ages 8-13 and it helps girls develop the skills they need to navigate life right now and to prepare them for their future."

This year, recipients included groups that work to improve girls' math skills... that provide services for women with cancer... and another that specializes in children and families separated because of abuse or neglect, called  Kids Restart, Inc.

Its $30,000 grant will go to supervised visitation between parents and their children in foster care.

Daniela Whitaker is the Executive Director of Kids Restart, Inc.

"There are so many worthy organizations talking. I don't know how the women of philanthropy could sit down and try to break it down, but then to hear we received the biggest award, I'm speechless."

Grant requests are accepted from Aiken, Burke, Columbia, McDuffie and Richmond counties. This summer, Edgefield county will be added to the mission.
