Hero Dog

Augusta, GA - A police dog is being deemed a hero -- 7 year old Bruno shot in the line of duty and severely wounded.
Today, he's recovering and reuniting with his fellow officer -and best friend.
Lara Spencer has the story.

The bond is unexplainable.  See in him the way he is it kills me. It's a reunion that Los Angeles police officer RJ Young was afraid might
never come. Young being here is the most relaxed I can get dog yelps louder that's him just telling me  when are we leaving  lets get out of here.

Just last week 7 year old Bruno, a sable german shepard, and six year veteran of the Anaheim police department.... was shot in the face while chasing down a suspect for RJ during a gun fight.....point blank.
It was a horrific thing to have to watch. My entire world came crumbling down in the matter of a second

The german shepard barely whimpered and returned to his partners side even though he was bleeding profusely he never made a sound
saving his life was a team effort for sure a  police escort shut down roads to clear  the way to the animal hospital E. R.

I brought him over a blanket of the baby's so he could have a piece of home. Bruno had emergency surgery to remove the bullet from his lung....and is recovering from a shattered jaw.

Rachel the officers wife, "I  know a lot of people may not understand they may say, its just a dog but this dog went with him everywhere  the dog spends more time with him than I spend with him.

RJ says bruno is his partner...in for the long haul for the rest of his life, "I know my dog I know my partner he's not gonna let this get the
best of him."
