WINTER HAVEN, FL (WFLA) -

The Winter Haven Police Department is seeking the public’s help to identify a woman who took a SUV owned by a city employee from the City Hall parking lot Thursday.

Authorities are looking for a woman in her early to mid 20s with black hair pulled into a ponytail who drove away in a maroon 1998 Ford Explorer, Winter Haven spokeswoman Jamie Brown said in a news release.

The woman was last seen wearing black pants, a blue shirt and a black jacket with white stripes on the arms. She was carrying a blue backpack and had a large brown dog on a leash..

The unknown woman entered the office of Winter Haven Water Manager Mike Britt and removed a pair of Reebok tennis shoes and a blue backpack containing Britt’s personal items, including a set of keys to his Ford Explorer, the news release stated. Britt was attending a meeting out of town at the time.

The woman left through the City Hall Annex, found Britt’s Explorer in the parking lot and drove away.

The Explorer was found Friday morning in the area of Lake Howard.

The police department is requesting anyone with information on the woman’s identity or information about the incident to contact police Detective Charles Bolton at (863) 401-2256 or Heartland Crime Stoppers at 800-226-8477.
